Say what you will about comedies from this era but even the mid tier, throw away movies had significantly more effort than mid tier movies nowadays. Everything from the production design, sound track, jokes, CGI, acting, you can tell the people making it actually cared.

That was genuinely a masterpiece. Every time I thought I knew what the movie was it kept surprising me. It is obviously a visual masterpiece and will likely be imitated for years (puss in boots 2, ninja turtles, etc.) and it sucks the Oscar’s are elitist and will only nominate it for best animated film probably when it could win for best picture, score, cinematography, editing etc. it’s not often I am struck with child like wonder and excitement like…
