No Way Home was very hype, and deservedly so, and I sincerely loved every minute of it, but Spoder-Verse is simply different class and the definitive big-screen encapsulation of everything that makes the webslinger so globally beloved and relatable. I’ve recently been keeping up with a Twitter account that has been posting every single frame from this film at random, and it is genuinely the rare example of a film whose every shot is beautifully composed, from first frame to final - every second thrown up on screen holds the indelible mark of its animator’s hand, and every tonal and textural decision pops and three-dimensionalises the comic book reading experience in a way live-action simply never could. It’s just a perfect film, a leap of faith that pays off over and over again and then some.
