November 1st, my birthday, I got to see this movie opening night at The Belasco Theater in New York. The gorgeous, opulent, Broadway theater was transformed into a projection house for the first time in its life, complete with a 32 foot screen. The lobby was decorated with telephone booths, and once stepping inside, you could pick up the telephone and listen to Pacino & De Niro's "I heard you paint houses" telephone call. There were six different 70's-style lobby cards for you to take home. Themed drinks at the bar. And lastly, a six page newspaper with the headline WHERE IS HOFFA, complete with photos, articles, and advertisements all related to events in the film. It was a perfect night and a perfect viewing experience...
And that's why I'm extremely sad that most people will watch this movie on a tv, laptop, or phone.
