“Cyber thriller that navigates the contrasting voyeurism and alienation nurtured by the internet” is my favourite genre of psychological thriller and this delivers on that premise so hard.
Juliette Gariépy is sooooo offputting in this. Her character, Kelly-Anne, almost reminds me of a 2020s Patrick Bateman, where moments of intense fixation are enshrouded by a robotic routine and constant air of disconnection.
The atmosphere feels unnerving and clinical, an atmosphere that is only furthered by the almost complete lack of…

★★★★½ Rewatched 16 Jan 2025
Commemorating today by rewatching one of my favourite David Lynch films. I unfortunately did not have 18 hours lying around to rewatch The Return, and Inland Empire might’ve been too traumatizing for the uninitiated few having dinner at my apartment.

★★★★½ Watched 26 Dec 2024
Robert Eggers is perhaps my favourite modern director yet none of his works have dabbled in subject matter that directly resonated with me. Nosferatu felt like a personal amendment — the shadow-enshrouded cinematography, the gothic costumes, the macabre imagery, and the sensuality of it all felt like carefully orchestrated me-pandering.
Eggers’ Orlok is inescapable, his plague of malice omnipresent. It truly feels like he is sinking his teeth into this world, suffocating life and instilling chaos. Eggers explores the various…

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would (production, costume design) but there’s really no getting around the colour grading here for me. The ornate sets and costumes feel so thoroughly cheapened by just how horribly they’re lit.
Feel bad giving this a lower score, especially considering the palpable earnestness from Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo (and Mackenzie, who graciously hosted this for a group of cynical cinephiles), but it lacked hard in certain aspects I value highly :(
Elphaba’s cape during the climax was fucking awesome tho 🫶
