a fun, gothic fantasy melodrama! I thought parts of it were pretty slow in the first half and key plot details were kinda scattered all over and lost in the sauce. However, all of those minor gripes of mine picked up and resolved by the end; the lesser qualities of the film were definitely compensated by as thrilling climax. Lots of fun twists and turn in the second half too. I love GDT’s grand, sweepingly romantic style and his attention to set designs and costumes. He’s truly one of the most gifted storytellers out there today.
