"How are you gonna be a revolutionary if you're such a traditionalist?"
A very whimsical yet grounded film that pays tribute to the Hollywood days of old. I really have no love for musicals, and the first fifteen minutes made me think this film would be painful to sit through, but the director knew how to balance a movie like this and not hit everyone over the head with show tunes for two hours. Stone was wonderful and was able to go through the spectrums of emotions throughout the film, which made her shine as the film's lead. The ending was poignant, but necessary. While it's not the best of the year for me, it's a wonderful surprise and an exceptional musical.
