Seemed to take all the least-fun aspects of a YA novel (moralising and self-important romance) and leave behind the more pulpy potential. I couldn't buy into the 'its just you and me baby' love story because everything seemed a bit neither here nor there re: the reason they were together (cannibalism). Couldn't commit to the horrors of it, but also too scared to make it sexy or fun. I don't think the film earnt the grotesqueness of the Chloë scene…

So many things I could say but the most important is that Sophie Von Haselberg is a genius. Also genius was the white under-eye makeup that made it look like her eyes were rolling back into her head. Subjugating your body to the audience to try look into it, use it as a mirror, and hopefully catch a coherent reflection flashing back. It's obvious – we all know what's happening – and yet we tap dance into the void.
