Don't think there's really all that much else to add about It's a Wonderful Life that hasn't already been said before; I just think that this movie hits all the right spots at the right times, especially on Christmastime where this movie has deservedly become a staple of the season. But given the popularity of It's a Wonderful Life, I think that this movie is one that surpasses its own reputation as one of the most beloved films ever made, but as a reminder to how film can reach out to us as a medium for storytelling - so to simply call this one of the best Christmas movies is an understatement.
This is just one of the best American movies ever made, and one of the very greatest movies ever made. There's only ever a thought from after watching this movie that can be best summed up from thinking we've all known people like George Bailey in our lives, and they're in need of help from people like us - we might not have Clarence Odbody's ability to show the world if they weren't around, but we can reaffirm the importance that their own lives have had upon others.
There's a whole lot to say about Frank Capra's habit of making optimistic films all about the American way of life, going from films like It Happened One Night or Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, but the case for It's a Wonderful Life is one that feels universal - so it's easy to see why this is his own favourite of his own films. This isn't just one of the best Christmas movies, but it's as life-affirming a movie as they can ever get.
