]]>although my one brain cell did struggle to comprehend the non-linear structure which also happens to be in russian — i don’t believe that there is any intrinsic meaning to this film, rather it is up to the viewer to create their own interpretation based on their experience whilst watching.
i liked how the film was based upon the narrator’s memories, however sometimes these memories were only half remembered which created a very dreamy & perplexing atmosphere but also, personally, made the film confusing on the whole.
for me, i don’t think i enjoyed this film as much as i would of if i had watched just because. instead i watched it because i wanted to mention it in my personal statement for uni as i needed to briefly talk about film from the soviet period that incorporates USSR history within it, therefore this definitely felt like more of a chore to watch which tarkovsky obviously did not intend for it to be.
maybe i’ll watch it sometime in the future and my opinion will change, idk, we’ll see.
