Despite the popularity of the Song of the Nibelungs, it has been filmed relatively rarely compared to other sagas such as Robin Hood, King Arthur, the Odyssey and others. The last production for the cinema was almost 60 years ago. A good time, therefore, to venture back into this fascinating and complex material. Like the Arthurian legend, the saga can be traced back in Germanic and Scandinavian traditions to the time of…

The arrest of suspected terrorist Daniela Klette has led to increased talk and writing about the left-wing extremist terrorist organization Red Army Faction (RAF for short) in recent weeks. Immediately after the so-called "German Autumn" of 1977, cinema was already dealing with the political and social climate prevailing at the time - with the episodic film "Germany in Autumn", conceived by eleven directors, and with Rainer Werner Fassbinder's solo work "Die Dritte…

At the end of the 1980s, it was almost impossible to escape Milli Vanilli's music. The debut album "All or Nothing", sold in the USA as "Girl You Know It's True", contained a series of hits. The German duo were constantly at the top of the charts, songs such as "Blame It on the Rain" and "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" were played up and down, whether on the radio or on…

"Das Parfum" by Patrick Süskind is a wonderful novel, and director Tom Tykwer has already made a number of brilliant films. So it's almost impossible to go wrong if you commission Tykwer to film "Perfume-The Story of a Murderer", which entered German cinemas yesterday again due to the event series Best of Cinema. On the other hand, expectations are high: will the film live up to the book? I already knew the…

For a while, there was practically no escaping the figure of the kangaroo by author Marc-Uwe Kling in the German-speaking world. In addition to the radio plays that started the triumphant advance, the marsupial was at home in books, plus numerous merchandising. So it wasn't really a big surprise when this success was to be continued in the cinema. That also worked out relatively well. boxd.it/11sCPz

You have to be grateful to Paul W.S. Anderson for devoting himself so sacrificially to the video game series "Resident Evil" that he doesn't stumble anywhere near Uwe Boll level. With his own version, which is partly based somewhat loosely on the first games, the Brit tried to give old-fashioned horror a neo-stylistic touch in 2002, added a genre-typical survival horror component with the "Hive" and let zombies walk in it, which of course…

There are always things about the Americans that leave Europeans a little puzzled. The food culture, for example. The election of their president. And of course the strong love of weapons. Whenever a massacre happens and you ask yourself how the perpetrator got hold of all these weapons, ... nothing happens. The fact that "Miss Sloane" (German title "Die Erfindung der Wahrheit"-The Invention of Truth) flopped badly at the US box office 4 years ago, despite good…

What do our pets do at home when we go to work?
This is the nice premise of "The Secret Life Of Pets", which makes you smile in the introduction. After that the story gets lost in an adventurous trip through New York City. There is no trace of narrative sophistication or even emotional depth. The plot remains insignificant until the sentimental finale.
Nevertheless, some gags are well done and the typical clichés about the different pets…

Rewatch Road to The Predator (2018)
Step 3 of 5
It must have been 10 to 12 years ago that I have watched Alien vs. Predator the last time. At that time I was about 16 years old and thought the movie was awesome. Because of that, I was really curious if I would like it as much as I did then. Spoiler: no!
At the time, obviously, I did not care about neatly crafted…
