Watched in the cinema
I've seen every single Spiderman movie in the cinema and although Spiderman 2 still has a big spot in my heart, I'm glad to say that I have a new favorite movie in the series.
The director trio understands it like no other filmmaker before, how to approach a comic book adaptation. Ang Lee has tried it in some ways with his Hulk film, but failed in the heavy, gloomy and much too intellectualised way.
This non-stop meta celebration was my most entertaining movie experience of the year. The different animation styles, the clever and exciting story, the self-ironic on-point humor: everything fits. In addition, the film not only has incredible attention to detail, but also has damn much heart.
You are interested in every single, individual character and I find it difficult to name my favorite spider. Even the kingpin as a villain was fantastic.
If there is one thing that I should complain about, it would be the over-inflationary use of hip-hop. As diverse as the different styles are, when it comes to the characters and the animations, one could perhaps have been more diversified in the choice of background music.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed every second and crave more. That can not be the end yet. Unfortunately, in Germany it has been relatively unsuccessful so far. It's probably too abstract for most people. For my part, I hope that a second trip to the Spiderverse comes. The pure imagination of the filmmakers deserves it.
