Maybe it’s just because I watched this with friends and we were all stoned but this was hysterical and deranged á la Birdemic and every line reading was perfect. No notes. Just grab your local church kid, tell him to, you know, kinda vamp for 80 minutes, and then to reach into the darkest places of his heart and soul for the last ten.

Wow. Truly unhinged and absolutely scathing. Fargeat knocks disgusting body horror out of the park on an aesthetic, thematic, and technical level, seemingly relishing in making the audience as uncomfortable as possible and successfully making me squirm in my seat and cover my eyes more than once. A bit perplexed by the backlash to this one. Thematically it’s definitely on the shallower side, but so were the first two. It’s consistent with those themes and takes them to a satisfying conclusion. It also looks and sounds fantastic, and is sufficiently both grimy and glossy when the mood calls for each. I also love how the more violent scenes are shot and edited, and it GOES THERE real quick.
