This was an overwhelming experience. Benjamin Rhee has constructed a deeply empathetic, formally inventive portrait of a remarkable young man who passed way too early. As a father to two little boys it was a constant struggle to hold back the tears, but this is not a depressing documentary. It’s moving and hard to watch at times for sure. Mostly vibes, and a handful of good laughs (“Piss juice!”). It’s not entirely successful but enjoyable as a hangout experience.

An oddly lethargic, almost disinterested, fictionalization of an infamous Iranian serial killer case from the director of the very good Borders. There’s so much to mine here on the personal, group, and institutional levels, but each of these pieces are given scant attention.
