Yep, I loved it. This is the first movie I’ve seen in a theater in at least a year, so maybe I’m a sucker for the cinema going experience. Or I just have extremely low expectations for modern day Tim Burton, but I had a blast seeing this. Keaton is used the right amount as Beetlejuice, the gags are frequent and mostly very funny, the set design is wonderful to look at, the special effects are largely practical and the spooky Halloween atmosphere makes it perfect to see in the cinema this time of year. Yes it borrows and references probably way too much of the original, but it’s been long enough since I saw it that I didn’t mind too much. Monica Bellucci is comically unthreatening as the antagonist, but again since Beetlejuice himself is more the antagonist to Winona Ryder’s character I can excuse it. A very fun time at the movies! Four stars.
