Charli XCX: Alone Together 2021

Don’t know why it took me so long to watch this! Charli is one of the most innovative and creative artists working right now. It was so fascinating to get such an intimate look at her creative process and the roller coaster of emotions it elicits. I was pleasantly surprised by how vulnerable she was throughout the film and it only endeared her to me more (if that’s even possible)
Civil War 2024

I was fascinated with the concept of a modern American civil war especially in today’s political climate but I’m not entirely sure what the point of all this was. The civil war was really just used as a setting to explore the realities of war photographers without diving too much into the political implication—never mind the fact that the state alliances didn’t really make sense. Despite my gripes with the story, I’m always a sucker for films about journalism and I liked this film but I wasn’t really given much reason to love it.

If I had a dollar for every film that Brad Pitt collects the scalps of German soldiers, I’d have $2, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

I was drawn in immediately from the opening scene and the rising tension kept me in it the whole time. Such a well made film with phenomenal performances, especially from Lily-Rose, Bill, and Willem. Deduct a star for Count Orlok having mid meat.
