Greg Rath-Pribyl’s review published on Letterboxd:
I was really interested in seeing Longlegs after watching the trailers. I found them really intense and I don’t get frightened that often.
The film is every bit as chilling as I hoped it would be. People will be comparing it to Silence of the Lambs which makes sense. This is practically a more anxiety inducing retelling of that story while still bringing plenty of fresh new ideas to the table. Even though I like Silence of the Lambs, I found this film to be much more terrifying. I highly recommend it just for the creep factor that never lets up. It starts intense and stays that way throughout the entire runtime.
It was a smart move to leave Nicolas Cage out of the advertising because this is a performance that you really can't spoil in the trailers. I love that even when he delivers what we expect from him, Cage can still show a side to his acting talent that we have never seen before. His role is like a mixture between Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, the Zodiac Killer, and a crazy religious Aunt/Granny like figure while still being a character that only Nic Cage could do. It’s quite amazing!
Any issues I have with the movie are not that major, but I should still mention them. For starters, this is another one of those movies that is divided into three parts. I don't think it was necessary. Part Two takes up the majority of the runtime so when "Part Three" pops on screen, I totally forgot that was what the film was even doing.
Also, I wasn't quite as creeped out by the third act of this movie as I was the first two. That might be because the big reveal goes just a bit too far (at least for me). The climax of this film is still chilling but I did like it more when it was just focused on the mystery between Lee Harker and Longlegs.
Overall, this was a great horror movie. Everyone says this is the scariest film of the year so far and I agree. 2024 has released some pretty good horror movies but none of them were as frightening as this one.
I strongly recommend Longlegs. When you see it, make sure you get a seat in the front row! This is a film you want to be in the front for!
