i’ll never forget the time i begged my mum to watch this when i was 9. when she eventually agreed, she played the film right up until the final fight starts, paused it and said ‘let’s stop it there for today’. the next day, she started the film right after the fight ends, and gaslit me into believing that’s how it was actually edited. 9 year old me was not impressed with ruth’s cut.

quentin tarantino incites a specific rage within me. i wanted to punch a wall watching this.
listen, i am a fan of it’s non-linearity, i’ll give it that. also, the 3 starts are for uma thurman and uma thurman only who, in the surprisingly limited screen time she’s given, carries the film.
however, i disliked many things. the violence and, in particular with this film, the sexual violence was excessive and quite horrifying. tarantino’s insistent need to use racist slurs…
