“They won't fear it until they understand it & they won't understand it until they've used it.”
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is quite possibly in my opinion his greatest film he has ever crafted. A true masterpiece in filmmaking. Fission vs Fusion. Oppenheimer vs Strauss. That was phenomenal storytelling about the atomic energy debate from both sides & its destructive capabilities. The end of World War 2 produced the upcoming Cold War.
The beautiful music & sound designs were astounding. I was mesmerized by them that I could hear & see our quantum realm. It’s so gorgeous & a great wonder in our universe. The main cast’s performance was simply perfection. The script was airtight, smart & powerful throughout the film. This is fucking cinema!!
Strauss is an intelligent schemer with a vindictive nature. The first time Robert & him met they started to bicker over personal details. Consumed with creating his own exaggerated narratives when dealing with Oppenheimer & atomic weapons. It blinded him about the real issue that these atomic weapons can end humanity. Strauss is too busy thinking about the political side that the United States has to be on top over everyone.
Oppenheimer is a unique & controversial figure of the 20th century. An independent & creative genius with stunning theories to unlock our world. His morale qualms emerged during the loud stomping & I felt the dread to the max. The stomps represent his guilt, anxiety, panic attacks & fear of what he has created. Our American Prometheus. Who was tortured for all eternity for giving the world knowledge on creating atomic weapons. Asking for forgiveness on this chain reaction.
The potential of ungodly powers that can be unleashed from these atomic weapons is horrific to think. Ending the story with a bleak & frightening statement. “I believe we have.” I do fear of a nuclear holocaust in our world. A dark & very possible future if left unchecked. I seriously hope it doesn’t happen. I’ve seen pictures of the Japanese victims from the bombs. It’s devastating & haunting. I’m so sorry that it happened to them…
