I decided to watch this mainly because I recognized Pierfrancesco Favino on the poster—he played Lord Glozell in 2008's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, a film that defined my childhood. I wanted to see what he had been up to since. And this movie was also about to leave streaming, so there was an added pressure to watch it as soon as possible.

Now, the first 30 minutes of this film had some of the best moments I've ever…

I'd heard of Claude Chabrol and his contribution to the New Wave quite a lot, but never seen many releases from that era. This one popped up on my feed at the right moment. The summary described it as a "heist" film, which immediately caught my attention and I decided to give it a go.

It's about con-artists Victor and Betty, played by Michel Serrault and Isabelle Huppert, who dupe unsuspecting people out of just a little bit of their…

George Zucco and Turhan Bey join forces once more, and with them is Evelyn Ankers, who's already one of my favorites. While I usually have more to say about the films in this series, this one leaves me with little to discuss. I guess it's cool seeing sort of a proto-zombie-type character in such an early film, but other than that, there's really nothing outstanding about it. It's just another standard, highly conventional entry into the Universal Monsters series.

Everything I said in my original review still applies. This time though, the weird stuff bothered me a little more than before. I had forgotten just how gross some of it feels, while the rest of the script feels like a bunch of random ideas thrown together. At least it seems to be self-aware of its ridiculousness.

It doesn't ruin the movie for me though; I still loved it just as much. Definitely not Hughes' at his best, maybe at…

I'd heard of Alex Ross Perry, maybe because of my mild interest in Christopher Robin when it released, but I'd never been interested in his work. Actually, I'm not really sure where I'd first heard of him, and honestly, I probably wouldn't have discovered this film if it wasn't about to leave streaming.

As for this movie, I didn't know what to expect from it. And now that I've finished watching it, I feel even more perplexed by its impact.…

"They have tremendous brain capacity. It does not mean though, that they have the ability to use it all."

The quote from this film kind of encapsulates my thoughts on it. It falters in fully tapping into its potential, resulting in an uneven narrative. And it all starts to make sense after reading up on its production history.

I don't completely disagree with Roger Corman's reasoning for the addition of the slimy, exploitative scenes, as it sort of comes with…
