Hi, I'm FredM, and I'm not really into musicals. That's the reason why I postpone watching this, and now I'm not afraid to admit that I'm glad I finally did. I still think it's forced to have a sing and dance routine every now and then in a movie, but when it's woven through such a wonderful, marvelous romantic story I couldn't care less.
It's the characters that make this such a heartfelt story, together with the music of course. Both leads are tremendous, but I do feel that Stones star even shines a bit brighter. Their chemistry was almost tangible, and I do suspect that Ms. Stone has a small crush on Mr. Gosling in real life, that's how believable she conveys.
Shot in the warmest colors and set in an era like it's the 60s but then with cell phones, this is a love story that keeps on resonating, and while it won't make me a musical aficionado, I'm still humming those wonderful theme tunes and that's quite an accomplishment.
