A horror movie that doesn't rely on jump scares, but makes you shudder through sheer creepiness? Hell yeah, that's my favorite type of horror.
Everything from the sound design to the brilliant color grading works flawlessly together to create an eerie mood that grips you from the very first scene and never lets go. Seriously, the cinematography is impeccable with every shot being so well composed. The use of ultra-wide lenses, zoom-ins, and long steady shots make the movie play with the suspense a lot. This film actually reminds me of Prisoners, not just because of the plot, but because of the similar discomfort it evokes. A lot of that is due to Nicolas Cage. My God, what a role. The scene in the car with him yelling “Mommy, Daddy, unmake me, and save me from the hell of living” will forever send shivers down my spine.
One of the best horror movies in recent memory. Longlegs is so pretty to look at, but so uneasy to watch.
