The Hidden 1987

This is one of those ones that I went backwards and forwards on for a rating. Should it be the customary 3.5/5 rating or the 4/5.
It’s a straight up schlocky genre picture. Schlocky is a term that isn’t used much in the modern day.
Obviously there’s some really bad acting here and some questionable special effects, even by 1987 standards.
But what we have here is a super entertaining movie, and seeing a young, few years before Twin Peaks, Kyle MacLachlan (as an FBI officer, no less!) is awesome, too.
Hard to not have fun with this one!

“People aren’t just one thing.”
Sometimes a film comes along with a vibrant filmmaker at the helm, appearing out of nowhere with something amazing and honest to say.
This is that film.
I’m actually in shock that this is Joe Talbot’s debut film. It must surely join the pantheon of incredible first films, which is almost certainly a limited list. I imagine this movie and its ideas were percolating in the minds of Talbot, Rob Richert, and of course Jimmie…
