A sheltered Amish child is the sole witness of a brutal murder in a restroom at a Philadelphia train station, and he must be protected. For a film that no longer gets a lot of attention, Peter Weir's "Witness" is an outstanding piece of work. A slow-rolling thriller as much about clashing cultures as it is about protecting its titular witness, Weir's film is grown up, exciting, and sure-handedly crafted. Combing peril, romance, and an observation about American cultural idiosyncracies, the film is an entertaining and engrossing heartland noir.

That moment when Harrison Ford sees Lukas Haas looking disheveled and pointing at the photo of Danny Glover still contained all the power to send a slight goose flesh chill up my spine. A hazy, well crafted thriller, simple in nature, but sometimes that’s all you need.
Absolutely POPPING off the screen in an early role as “12th Amish Guy on the Left” is a stunningly gorgeous young man named Viggo Mortensen.
I didn't expect to be so invested in Harrison Ford trying to fuck an Amish woman. It nearly immediately ditches the police thriller aspect and turns into an Amish fish out of water flick. When the final assault came on the Amish village I almost forgot they were in the middle of a internal police conspiracy.
Very few directors understood Harrison Ford — his range, complexity, and sexual magnetism — quite like Peter Weir. He got the best out of Ford (yes, that’s saying a lot. But it’s true). And this romantic thriller, wherein Ford plays a cop who goes into hiding amongst the Amish so he might protect a young boy who’s seen a heinous crime, his lone Oscar-nominated performance, is among his best.
Every unrequited scene in this steamy romance is smeared with a fervent physical lust that sweats though the pores to intoxicating levels by way of the furtive glances shared by Ford and Kelly McGillis, she plays the mother of the boy.

this is probably the sexual repression talking but harrison ford looks so good in amish clothing, like the unbuttoned shirt and suspenders look, doing stuff like carpentry and raising barns. unparalleled.
I feel like this movie was a bit too long, all the "Amish part" in which John Book tries to settle in the community for me was a bit "dragged" and uninteresting. Maybe this movie could have lasted 30 minutes less.
Btw, overall it's a good thriller and if you like this kind of genre, it's the perfect movie for you.
