Synopsis
Return to his Swamp
Ten years ago, over forty people were brutally torn to pieces in Louisiana’s Honey Island Swamp. Over the past decade, lone survivor Andrew’s claims that local legend Victor Crowley was responsible for the horrific massacre have been met with great controversy. But when a twist of fate puts him back at the scene of the tragedy, Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and Andrew must face the bloodthirsty ghost from his past.

Adam Green is quite possibly the most underrated director working the horror circuit today since most of his films fail to garner a major release and the box office revenue that well-known directors Eli Roth, Leigh Whannel and James Wan garner. His films are always loads of fun and include subtle jabs of humor and other offhanded…

Possibly the lowest budgeted Hatchet movie, but (along with the first film) probably the franchise installment with the biggest heart.
Victor Crowley came as a surprise... and a welcomed one to boot. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with Adam Green during the release of Digging Up the Marrow... He’s a delight of a human being and the farthest thing from the ‘dumb frat boy’ Eli Roth dude bro label I’ve seen tossed around here on litterboxd. Victor Crowley is what I needed tonight—bloody, tongue firmly planted in cheek, filled with convention staples (lol), and utilizing the less is more format better than most pictures of its ilk, easily besting the over-serious and underwhelming third entry. I love the inspirational story of how this movie came to be... if George Romero tells you to make another Hatchet film, you make it.

5 stars alone for the commanding performance by “Pilot 2”.
(fun fact: I (ahem) “HE” kept fucking up his ONE line that “Pilot 1” (as played by Herr Direktor) had to say it.)
So much fun watching this on LAST DRIVE IN which seemed to have been the perfect venue for this soft refresh of the HATCHET series.
Dave Sheridan nearly steals the show...till Laura Ortiz takes over...and Tiffany Shepis is HEARTBREAKING.

All hail, Victor Crowley!
You can tell Adam Green loves and appreciates ‘80s horror. He gives his best effort in each film he makes, and Victor Crowley aka Hatchet IV continues the tradition. With crazy gore, including a tomahawk scalp, phone guts, foot squish, the ringtone of doom, Jason vs Michael Myers, face mush and airplane goo; Mr Crowley slices and dices his way through his victims, all while the jokes keep running. Parry Shen is the heart and soul of the franchise, but Dillion is the MVP of this one. The abrupt ending is saved with the extra scene, which should bring Hatchet fantatics to their feet. This one is for the fans, but if you’re a fan, you’re gonna dig it!

The reviews for this were so mixed that I really wasn’t sure what to expect, but I never should have worried because once again, Adam Green delivers a great slasher!
The comedy is back full blast this time and Parry Shen is also back and I’ve really gotten attached to the guy! The gore is superb as always and while I’m sure the crashed plane setting was to help hide budgetary constraints, I thought it was a pretty creative way to do so. I loved Felissa Rose in this as well as Official Cute Nerd Chase Williamson. In fact, my only real complaint here is that they put Tiffany Shepis in it and gave her a total cop out death.…

Whoa, this was actually a lot better than I thought it would be! Not since the original Hatchet did I have so much fun with the story and the direction it was heading in. As always, a large part of my enjoyment had to do with the cast, which is pretty great here (Parry Shan returns, Sleepaway Camp's Felissa Rose is introduced). Plus the gore/splatter effects are as exaggerated as they have always been, so that's good.
Victor Crowley is a serious contender for being the most entertaining movie in the franchise. I had the best time watching this with Michelle.

I met Adam Green today...
And he is easily the nicest filmmaker I have ever met, we talked about GWAR and Dangerous Toys it was pretty sweet.
But watching this in a theater with other people was just a fantastic experience that made driving 2 hours to Cleveland worth it because honestly I love this movie. Is it better than Hatchet? YES. But will I tell you anything about it? HELL NO. Watch this movie for yourself, don't look up anything about it, and certainly don't ruin what happens for anyone else. (as requested by Green himself)
I have always had a personal connection to Adam Greens films that I wont get into right now, and seeing this in theaters…

"It's a real mixed bag" - Dylan,
-Daily Horror Hunt #23 (4/31): boxd.it/5m5ve
"Watch a film with one of your favorite actors (I chose Tony Todd)"
Tony Todd is literally in this for under 10 seconds.
I think what charms me about the Hatchet/Victor Crowley films is how much effort seems to go into making effective low budget horror. It's hard to describe someone getting their head chopped off as endearing but somehow this film makes it endearing. The script itself is quite poor and the performances, as per usual, are not very good. The humor really falls flat for me in this one yet the kills feel especially fun... it's a real mixed bag.
Moderate recommend to horror fans. Recommended specifically to slasher fans.

After Andrew Yong of the first Hatchet gets roped into a low budget horror about the Crowley massacre, the filmmakers accidently resurrect the ghost of the hack-faced murderer as a private jet with the minor celeb and entourage crash lands in the swamp. What happens next is a foregone conclusion.
Maybe from not being so try-hard about filling the void of slashers of yore in modern day, this fourth entry of Crowley's Bog of Gutpiles and Decaps might be the best since the first. Adam Green returns to helm a sequel not even he expected to make and as does his very politically-incorrect humor. Something that may turn off some, but it's the film's best asset with adept writing from…

It’s Hatchet 4. Like the first three, it’s got a medium budget, mediocre effects, mostly funny lines, plenty of horror icons, and lots and lots of kills. I didn’t find it any better or worse than the previous installments, they’re consistently “solid” if not particularly exceptional. I did enjoy the impractical effects and the Impractical Joker!
