The definition of insanity is me seeing the new V/H/S every year at FF knowing I never have a very good time, but you bet your ass I’ll be seated for the next one - Justin Long’s short was good bark bark
Unable to tell if Fur Babies is actually good or if Tusk did that much psychic damage to me (complimentary, I think).
Stowaway, Kate Siegel, please don’t stop directing.
Stork feels like it’s ripped straight from a video game cutscene, which is both a good and bad thing.
Dream Girl would probably be more watchable if the final 10 minutes wasn't told via a strobe light constantly blinking.
Live and Let Dive is the least interesting, creative, and most actively insufferable of the bunch.
Another year, another hit and miss VHS, but I’ll keep watching.
Kate Siegel and Mike Flanagan are truly so amazing. Stowaway honestly made me feel a certain way, those take-off scenes gave me anxiety, and watching her turn looked torturous and so awful. Definitely my favorite out of all the shorts.
Justin Long and his brother Christian did a fantastic job as well. Fur Babies was definitely on the creepy side and definitely had its similarities to Kevin Smith's Tusk.
I didn’t care for the rest of the other shorts besides Live and let dive that one was alright as well but other than that it seems to me the Long brothers and the most amazing married couple on planet earth carried the living shit out of this movie. I did enjoy the documentary-style thing they decided to do in between shorts too.
Fun stuff! It might be my favorite VHS? Not sure yet lol still gotta do a full series rewatch soon.
Stork- mid but sick chainsaw POV and kills
Dream Girl- what in the Leatherface…
Live and Let Dive - 10/10 fucking awesome
Fur Babies - Pet Sematary on crack
Stowaway - overhyped… why would she come in there in the first place and kept touching things she’s not supposed to
each segment is just utter fucking sci-fi horror mayhem. insane bloody gore, visuals & sickening alien designs. my absolute favorites would have to be stowaway directed by the great kate segel and written by mike flanagan, live and let dive & stork which is beyond fucked & sick… plus justin long dude.. what the fuck..
For me this is the best in the franchise. All segments were entertaining and had a cohesiveness that made it feel like one movie overall. The order of the shorts really worked too! So happy for this franchise and all the wonderful directors that have worked on it over the years. I expect we’ll see more great things from V/H/S going forward. Bravo and Brava!
Movie went from Left 4 Dead gameplay to “do you need a therapist Justin Long!?? This is f*cking terrifying” !!
Honestly, without a doubt and in my opinion, this is the best VHS film in the franchise. Every segment from start to finish is either incredibly fun and entertaining, or it’s just downright great and gory !!
The special effects and the plot lines for each were all so unique and tied in perfectly in the end. Of course, my favorite segments have to be “Stork” and “Fur Babies”. I’ve never seen a more disturbing looking Bird and a more disgusting looking dog hybrid, whatever the f*ck you want to call it, thing in my life. Well done.
I would highly encourage anyone who’s a fan of this franchise and anyone who wants to watch a really good gory “alien” type movie to give this one a watch on Shudder now !!
It might not be the most daring V/H/S outing (although it boasts some of the better shorts of the series: parachutes, dogs and abductions are winners here for me), but after the massive disappointment of Joker 2 and walking towards Halloween season it’s a more than welcome addition to the found footage canon.
***
