The action takes place in the autumn of 1942, when German army was approaching Stalingrad and a group of Belarussian partisans decides to make a disruption in the rear of German's troop trains. Having found themselves without equipment, they send the young Mikhas to mechanic Bugreev. He is accompanied by Sazon Ivanovich, who is also cooperating with Germans - by the secret task of partisans. They come to the lodge, where equipment is hidden, build a fire and start to clarify explosive. Sudden arrival of Germans crushes the heroes' plan.
With all of its laconism of the general narrative, director Viktor Turov's diploma work strikes with the depth of psychologism and both historical and cultural poetics. The Soviet Belarusian way of life, the horrors of Nazi occupation, the fragility of trust in people during wartime, echoes of the gentry past: all of this creates an deeply ambiguous visual canvas, as seen through the eyes of a teenage partisan. Even the title "Through The Graveyard" has a sacred meaning: the road to victory over the invaders is always paved by countless victims, both accidental and martyred. This is an extremely strong, worthy directorial debut, grabbing your attention with mesmerizing cinematography and persuasive performances from both the lead and supporting actors.
Юный партизан Михась едет на телеге с дедом Сазоном Ивановичем в оккупированную немцами деревню. Отличная военная драма, напомнившая Германа. Выходит, белорусы сняли свой "Экипаж в Вену" за два года до чехов.
