proof that Mickey Mouse will destroy society if left unchecked
The end of an era.
Paul Rudish was hired by the Walt Disney Company to create a series about Mickey Mouse & Friends where each short film would be centered around a different country & its culture. By doing so, it would be giving the world their own unique version of Mickey. When they began airing in 2013, the shorts instantly became a runaway hit.
Because Mickey had been shackled to the corporation's lackluster branding since the '60s, this revitalization of the character was not only needed, but it gave him a sharp, witty, and bouncy reimagining.
Throughout history, the number one criticism about the character since its inception was his lack of personality. Everyone has heard of the classic insult, "Don't…
Probably could have stretched this out to a fun 70-80 minutes and put it in theaters to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Disney. Show how much of a fucking lunatic old Mickey used to be along side the more sanitized modern Mick.
Would’ve been better than Wish for the 100th Anniversary. Anywho, fuck Disney.
So I'm never going to see this century's finest iterations of Mickey and the gang or the Looney Tunes ever again after today, am I...
If the Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse shorts must come to an end, than I’m glad it was with this-a story that both celebrates and gently pokes fun at Mickey’s legacy, centered on perhaps his most iconic film appearance. I love that Steamboat Silly recognizes that a) Steamboat Willie has some rather…strange elements and b) how vastly different the landscape of animation was in the 1920s and plays around with its properties as the Steamboat Mickeys wreak havoc. The beginning’s a bit clunky, but the genuinely sweet ending and pencil tests in the credits tie a neat bow on this fantastic run of chaotic shorts.
TFW Paul Rudish manages in the ten-minute swan song to his Mickey Mouse shorts (😪) to achieve a more genuine and lovingly-homaging 100th anniversary of Disney than the entirety of Wish. Why couldn’t we have had this stretched out to a solid 80-90 minutes and make that the big film? With that beautiful Once Upon a Studio short as the lead-in?
I haven’t had the time to watch many films or write reviews lately, but hopefully soon! Finding the time to fit in a 2+ hour film when you’re exhausted is kind of hard and I want to be in the right mindset/energy level for certain films in my watch pile. This weekend I should be getting back to normal!
This short could’ve been a whole feature film and I would’ve smiled ear to ear from beginning to end. What a tribute to Mickey Mouse through the years and it’s full of amazing Disney shorts Easter eggs. If you love Disney World or Mickey you definitely owe it to yourself to check this out. It’ll put a smile on your face for sure. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and the pacing was like wild fire.
The end of an era.
I can't believe this is the last of the current Mickey Mouse shorts.
What a fantastic fucking run. Never failed to bring me a chuckle when I needed it.
Couldn't reccomend it enough.
