Prominent gang leader Cyrus calls a meeting of New York's gangs to set aside their turf wars and take over the city. At the meeting, a rival leader kills Cyrus, but a Coney Island gang called the Warriors is wrongly blamed for Cyrus' death. Before you know it, the cops and every gangbanger in town is hot on the Warriors' trail.

The scene on the subway when they're sitting opposite the rich kids is probably the best depiction of a class divide I've ever seen, you know? That pretty much silent scene tells you a million things about this fantasy world, more than hours of plot ever could.

It's worth noting just how gay this really is, fronted by a cast of cartoonish masculine archetypes who are sent on an odyssey through most of New York's major cruising spots -- Central Park, the subway, tearooms, bars, the Coney Island boardwalk -- all while being hunted by leathermen, skinheads, and an assortment of deceitful and burdensome women. Say what you will about Remar's repeated use of 'faggot,' but it's his character's tiringly obnoxious need to flaunt his heterosexuality that causes his downfall.
Can't wait for the upcoming remake about a group of DSA organizers trying to escape the new Amazon facility!

Hey there boppers…
Rewatched partly because of the obvious influence on John Wick 4, but didn’t realize the degree of the influence until last night. I don’t blame Stahelski & Co, The Warriors was one of the coolest movies I watched in my youth and continues to live rent free in my brain a decade later.
I hope they never remake this, but let’s be honest, it’s only a matter of time.
