Watched it with my 6-year old. Movie ends. Total silence. He whispers, "That was awesome."
The man of tomorrow. A gorgeous, deeply felt children's fable on American xenophobia and militarism, also I am crying now.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the warmth, love and care this film emanates.
Thank you, Brad Bird, thank you.
It's bad to kill. Guns kill. And you don't have to be a gun.
Conservatives in 2024 would have a stroke if this movie came out today.
From a purely directorial standpoint, this has all the hallmarks of Brad Bird's signature genius. It's also pretty solid emotionally with some excellent animation to boot. I really wish I could join the rest of y'all in saying it's a 10/10 masterpiece, but much like HTTYD2, I just have a ton of story and character problems that piled up over time.
The villain is a horrendously embarrassing and annoying dipshit, the mother is sidelined incredibly hard, the beatnik guy is incredibly hard to pin down a motivation for, the fact that Hogarth starts playing with the robot immediately before the army has even left the town just reeks of contrived conflict and idiocy, I could go on.
But it's still a good movie and I still like it for all the same reasons everyone else likes it despite my problems with it k thx bye
"Oh my god... Um, uh... Oh, my god! We... thank you for the... er, food that mom has put in front of us and STOP! ...Uh, The Devil! ...From doing bad things? And er, GET OUT OF HERE! ...Uh, Satan? GO! Go, so... that we may live in peace. Amen."
"Amen. That was... hmm, really unusual, Hogarth."
