While driving through the New Mexico Desert during a rainy night, college students Jim Halsey and his girlfriend Grace Andrews give a ride to a hitchhiker. While in their car, the stranger proves to be a psychopath threatening the young couple with a knife, but Jim successfully throws him out of the car. This sets off a chain of events that will change all of their lives forever.

Another 00’s horror remake where I don’t understand the hate. This is a solid scarefest! I haven’t seen the original in well over a minute, but I seem to remember the biggest problem with that one is that it blows its load waaaaaayyyyy too soon and never regains steam after that. This one wisely solves that problem by holding said load until the end so what’s not to love?! I am going to watch the original again soon, but I’m still almost positive that this basically improves the flaws of the that classic.
Zachary Knighton is just my type. Slight hint of a dad bod and shaggy hair. YUM. Sophia Bush is a total goddess. That final scene where she jumps out of the van with the gun is almost enough to make me straight. Almost.
Like watching a turtle dry hump the ever loving crap out of a rock 'cause he thinks he's making mad love to a hot turtle señorita without remembering that he's too much of an idiot to actually understand what a real turtle looks like.
This remake of the horror/thriller cult-classic opening with some rabbit roadkill CGI and an All-American Rejects song wasn't a good sign. The Hitcher remake really only has 3 things going for it, Sean Bean, Neal McDonough and one pretty fucking GRUESOME death. Other than those things, it's bland as fuck. I really dug Bean as the psychotic killer John Ryder, Sophia Bush is okay enough but this fucking dude who plays her boyfriend, holy shit is he terrible. A lot of stuff happens in this movie, but none of it really excited me in any way. There's thrills that are thrill-less and people die but it isn't all that shocking or made me feel anything. The Hitcher is a piece of roadkill cinema, definitely one of the lower end remakes from production company Platinum Dunes.

Lass uns mal fair sein: Gäbe es nicht den Klassiker von 1986 mit Rutger Hauer, würde ich diesem Film vielleicht mehr als einen halben Stern geben. Und wäre Dr. James Hakle im 19. Jahrhundert nicht so freundlich gewesen, das Toilettenpapier zu erfinden, würden wir uns wahrscheinlich immer noch den Arsch mit der Faust auswischen. Sowohl mein Hintern als auch mein Cineastenherz sind dankbar, dass diese "Was wäre wenn"-Szenarien nie Realität wurden.
Dieses Machwerk hier bietet mir erneut die Gelegenheit, einen großen Philosophen des 20. Jahrhunderts, Adam Carrington, zu zitieren: "Dieser Film war Dreck, dieser Film ist Dreck, und dieser Film wird immer Dreck sein."
Wenn dieses Stück Zelluloidmüll 2027 seinen 20. Geburtstag feiert werde ich den Machern…
It’s horrorific how long that All American Rejects song plays for, it goes from day to night and they cross like two state lines and it’s still on the radio. Nightmarish.
This gets trashed a lot but I dunno... it’s nowhere near as bad as I’d heard... and Sean Bean is pretty great here! Despite lacking lots of what I love about the OG Hitcher (mainly tension) this is still decent dinnertime fodder that fit the particular mood I was in, so kudos to that!

It might be time to admit that I have a problem. A Platinum Dunes Horror Remake problem. Once I ran out of the high octane Nispel, I started to get the creepy-crawlies like digital bugs moving around under my skin and behind my eyes and soon needed to score and only HE can help, The Hitcher. I might've felt ashamed or wrong, because I know in my heart of hearts it isn't right. I told myself "This is boring", "This is stupid", "REALLY? REALLY? COME ON!!!", all to no avail.
