  This movie is infinitely better if:

  - Woody Harrleson was not in it. A character who spends time stifling any of the momentum and development between Parker and the rest of the cast. A nothingburger role, a role solely so people scrolling on Hulu will stop and say "Is that Woody Harrelson?"

  - wasn't afraid to actually dive deeper into the politics of life, death, and religion.

  Every moment between Parker and her friends or Parker and Linney, it was like watching an entirely different movie. There's an impressive level of authenticity in Chinn's portrayal of 2000s youth and the raw emotion between Parker and Linney is enough to fuel the entire movie, but instead we have to take a break to hang out with Woody.

  Too afraid to be confrontational, so it settles on being cliche.

  This reminds me a lot of The Edge of Seventeen, but in a much more depressing way. I will admit that in 2024 alone, I have cried more at a movie than I did in 2023 put together. I will always adore Woody Harrelson's roles in coming-of-age films.

  It seems like Laura Chinn had good intentions and motivation behind Suncoast, and her heart was definitely in it. However, the movie ultimately lacks cohesion and feels messy. It's a mixed bag with some great parts, particularly the emotional scenes involving Laura Linney as a troubled mother and her daughter. The coming-of-age aspect with Nico Parker and her friends is also enjoyable, but there's a disconnect, especially with the scenes involving Woody Harrelson. It's like watching three different movies at times, and the Harrelson scenes feel out of place. While certain elements work well separately, they don't come together as a whole. Despite this, there were touching and emotional moments, suggesting there's potential for a better movie within Suncoast.

  Pra quem não sabe, esse longa do Disney Plus consegue ser um retrato comovente e honesto de uma adolescente lidando com a iminente perda de seu irmão para o câncer cerebral, enquanto tenta encontrar um sentido de normalidade em sua vida!
  Suncoast possui essa premissa que chega a ser envolvente, e abordando temas bem complexos que envolve luto em vida, o dilema ético em torno do caso de Terri Schiavo (recomendo que tu clique nesse link pois tu vai ficar surpreendido assim como eu fiquei) e a busca por identidade e aceitação. Tudo isso com uma direção sensível e performances poderosas, e uma narrativa bem construída, pois essa película consegue encontrar uma balança para equilibrar momentos de humor e leveza…
