I never want to grow old. I never want to die. I'm too young to die.

Somehow manages to evoke early Cronenberg while simultaneously being completely shallow. That sounds harsh, there is something to like here it’s just the film introduces several intriguing plot elements but doesn’t follow any of them instead going for the far less interesting standard climax that you’d find in any number of horror thrillers.
Most interesting thing about the film is that it’s co-written by Richard Stanley and makes me wish that he had directed it, but he was still unofficially blacklisted when this was made. He only recently directed his first feature film in over 20 years with Color Out of Space…
only watched this because the girl on the poster looks a lot like lili reinhart from riverdale and i'm in love with her, this was a regrettable decision, should have just rewatched a riverdale episode. nothing you've not seen before told in a lazy way with shite characters and no scares, it's a cinematic shrug despite a neat concept and committed central turn. also it feels kinda demeaning towards its protagonist, like her desperation to keep her skin is made an issue of vanity and insecurity instead of the issue of her skin peeling off of her body being y'know, a medical emergency and a terrifying one at that. this is what i get for being thirsty and also trusting that a man called norbert could direct a good movie
Body horror is alive and well in the indie horror scene these days-Cronenberg would be proud.
I loved this film and definitely a film you'll appreciate more on a second watch,Rebecca Forsythe is stunning and is great in this role,Id love to see her in more of these genre roles cause she was brilliant.
And with the Cronenbergesque theme, the colour palette being very Argento with the reds, blues, and greens,Barbara Crampton in it and two cops being named ' Loomis' and 'Myers' lol,,us horror freaks will be well entertained and i love body horror its actually one of my favourite sub-genre so if your like me and love Cronenberg's early stuff and loved his son Brandon's Anti-viral get on this straight away,,its great
8.5/10
It might be pleasing to the eye but as far as acting, writing and story this movie is a mess. The movie falls in the same trap a lot of body horror movies tend to fall in and that’s telling an actual story. It might sound interesting on paper but the idea is just so poorly executed due to the poor writing that feels like it has no idea on what it wants to be and the overall performances from the cast. With that said the movie is really well shot and does have a couple pretty solid moments throughout the movie, it’s kind of confusing on why this is finally getting released in America next month (October 1st to be exact) but oh well the movie isn’t really worth it. I can definitely respect on what they were trying to do with this movie but I feel like it’s an overall miss.

if my girlfriend started stealing peoples skin i would simply support her wishes.... rip to sophia but i'm different
Hooptober requirement: 3 disease based films - 3/3 - ✓
and there's the last of the hooptober requirements for the year. i'll probably watch some stuff tomorrow but none of it will be tied to any of the requirements or any sense of planning probs. this was a bit of a sour note to go out on lmao...
solid enough body horror imagery but that was literally all there was to it. there's a lack of thematic or narrative appeal to be found here and that's usually what i come to for films like this for. it's feels shallow. seeing Barbara Crampton pop up was great as always but that's about it.
if you were to talk to me about this in an hour, i probably will have forgotten about it already.
I went into this mostly blind. The only reason I bothered watching Replace was because Shudder was boasting it up on Twitter and I saw Barbara Crampton was in it.
Replace feels very much like an arthouse horror film. I think I would’ve enjoyed this a lot more if the filmmakers just kept it simple. It starts out with a pretty cool premise with a lot of potential for great body horror.
A fairly obvious twist took the movie down a path that didn’t really interest me. I got bored with it by the time it ended. The performances are decent though, especially the lead actress. This is not anything I would ever consider watching again. It’s not the type of horror that I find appetizing.
I would really have loved this if it had been made by a woman, but in its current state it was way too male-gazey for me. Also the lesbian plotline was way too similar to Orphan Black for my taste, except way trashier (to the point that I'm surprised that there wasn't straight-up scissoring). Overall it could have had a Neon Demon/Antiviral style, but instead it mostly just came off as two creepy old dudes wanting to film extremely young-looking women naked. But yeah I'd be down for a remake asap, and Barbara Crampton was 👌 👌 👌. Seen at Fantasia International Film Festival.
Replace is like the love child of Starry Eyes, The Neon Demon and Contracted. It's visually magnificent, gloriously gory and super atmospheric, the third act falls apart and goes in a ridiculous direction but as a whole I actually really dug it. It also stars legendary horror mistress, Barbara Crampton, so in my eyes it was a winner from the get-go.
Unsettling ! ! !
My skin began to scratching during some scenes, it was frightful. so, i simply loved the first and second act, the 3, loses a little of tension, but the ending pays off! a very strange, weird and beautiful looking movie.
thanks to this movie for confirming that skin-based body horror is like my biggest trigger this made me physically ill
