Perhaps a live-action Popples was just too much for people and an animated series easier to take? Seeing them real may make me feel a tad xenophobic. Granted they just appeared in an attic without explanation, no clue as to their origins. They'd just pop and giggle. They've got to be hiding something (if they are, it's never revealed -unless their unpopping counts as a reveal). Throw in unrelated footage of Popples as a band doing ersatz reggae. The low stakes climax takes place in a Goodwill which, for being a glorified toy commercial, is subversive. Also subversive is how focused the adults are on watching a boring sports game on TV. Excellent Popples designs by the Chiodo Brothers. If you are invested in puppetry and pastel aesthetics look no further than this Shelley Duvall co-written toy tie-in one-off. It's on YouTube.

Just found out about the 2015 Popples tv show I’m going to throw up they’re so ugly
-
This was Shelley Duvall’s first outing as Executive Producer, so I tip my hat.
It doesn’t “age well” or anything, but for bubbly nonsense you could do worse.

I’m not convinced this wasn’t a horror movie.
“I’m PC….that stands for pretty cool.” 😎

I grew up watching this on an old VHS tape that was recorded from TV...probably saw it when I was 6 years old, and at 25, I still watch it on that ratty old tape. It was made to promote the cartoon and toys that would come later. It's silly. It's cheesy. And it did what it needed to do.
I love this little film. It's sweet and cute, just like Shelley Duvall (who wrote it!!! AHHHH♡♡♡) And those puppets...I LOVE the puppets. To this day, I think they're some of the sweetest, prettiest little critters ever created. I wish the dolls were as cute as the puppets! They were so appealing, their hair always looked so soft, they looked…

written by shelley Duvall ?! Featuring a beach boys-esq musical number that’s dripping w so much cheese they have to run it back ?! Pitchfork would have given that song Best New Music even without a large nepo -donation or ritual sacrifice. Now I’m reading the musician behind it was in the Christopher Cross band and died in a car crash in Studio City.
I hope these puppets weren’t stored away but incinerated at the core of the earth after a team of geo-scientists built a drill made of diamond to burrow thru the tectonic plates. When people have bad days it’s because the popples’ laughs are traveling up thru earths core at such low frequency they can’t be registered by the most pristine cochlea but are able to disturb the psychology of mass bystanders by reverberating up the spine
