Pfau - Bin ich echt?
We just went for it.
After being admittedly let down by this year’s Yorgos film, this gives me that specific type of quirkiness that I like from time to time in my character studies. Honestly found myself very won over by this after a certain point, both feeling as though it’s a movie that is destined to be remade in the States, while also believing that people should just check this itself out whenever it’s available. Sometimes you just need to see a movie where a Pomeranian sucks itself off. Peacock is just like its eponymous animal, rather pretty, and has something to it that, while cool, is notably off-putting. Through a man that embodies a…
I found this to be maybe the funniest movie I've ever seen. The lead actor is such a star, and the situations written up for him are so good. The opera house scene is a great climactic example, but even small stakes encounters were hilarious. Something felt very special about it that I can't put my finger on. The movie prepared you to always be ready to laugh in a very sincere way. It wasn't always trying to be funny, but it just nailed everything so hard that it was always funny while progressing the narrative efficiently. I think that's the elusive goal of a comedy
Ok, wow. Put this Bernard Wegner on your radar. The wit and hubris of this film is coupled with layered themes that engage with our complex contemporary world in such a fresh way. It’s the coming of age tale of a sad, perfect man.
Selten eine so intelligente, originelle Komödie/Satire aus Österreich gesehen.
Ein großartiger Film mit einem tollen Blick auf die Gesellschaft. Unbedingt anschauen!
Kinostart ist im Frühjahr 2025
Everything about this film was so funny yet, so unbelievably tragic.
Every time I laughed I genuinely felt bad for laughing.
It has sooo many layers and could be interpreted in so many ways, if I start with only one of them I’ll end up sobbing my way out of this review (like Matties did in the performance art show iykyk)
My heart will always have a thing for niche german films 🫶🏼
I like how the humor is very casual; it never feels like big set-ups and long pauses for laughter. The humor is very natural and effortless; it’s dry but never felt smug. For the first half of the movie, I was a little worried that we weren’t going to get much on the character side, but Matthias really grew on me as a character. I thought he was going to just be a guy we laugh at, but his story and Albrecht Schuch’s performance really drew me in on an emotional level. Also, I just love the ending; I can’t think of a better way to conclude Matthias search for purpose.
Fuck yes. One-of-a-kind and totally hypnotizing performance from Albrecht Schuch who also happens to be a total smokeshow. Brilliant first watch for CIFF!!
Very funny story about the virtues of living disruptively, with just the right amount of shock and really perfect physical comedy. Loved so much.
Full review for PopMatters ASAP 💛💛
funny and kinda absurd. matthias is german non serial killer patrick bateman. why were sophia and ina the most beautiful and stylish women i’ve ever seen.
A hilarious and intelligent film with an extensive amount of dry visual gags. The combination of comedy and thriller gave this film a gently manic surrealist edge and it was a clear winner of the festival for and the only screening I saw that lead to the audience cheer at the end along with their applause.

pros: the dry humour was really enjoyable and some scenes caught the whole theatre off guard, loved seeing the range of the actor portraying Matthias throughout the movie despite his arc being somewhat predictable, went with nora my beloved and cursed off german people together <3, got a free popcorn and a poster
cons: had to admit that i haven’t watched American Psycho ever yet, couldn’t attend the Q&A after with the supporting actresses because of my curfew
