Easily a top 5 in terms of saddest movies I’ve seen. Nothing like a good cry on a Saturday night. Mark Duplass and Ray Romano both give some GREAT performances in this that I already know will be insanely overlooked. There were moments that felt so real and others that feel a little cliché and I would’ve liked some more consistency but damn. The end (the scene) is one of the most heartbreakingly realistic things I’ve ever seen in film. Props to the performances and direction because it was truly unlike anything I’ve seen before. This was much better than I expected.

This is great.
This is sweat.
This is touching.
This is heartwarming.
This is sad.
This is fun.
This is a beautiful friendship.

“You always look sad when we finish.”
I’m in love with this. I could’ve watched these guys hang out for so much longer, and I think that’s the point. Their time together isn’t particularly planned out or even all that eventful — no one moment feels so unique, but within each rambling conversation, you could just stay inside the warmth of it forever. Easily one of my favorite movies about friendship and an incredibly realistic depiction of love between men. Duplass and Romano are both effortlessly charming, the script allowing for Romano to be utterly commanding.
If I ever want to drown in my feelings, I could do a double feature of this and Old Joy.
-
totally on board with ray romano's renewed career as a dramatic actor

SUNDANCE #7
at the q&a after the film, we learned that there was no dialogue in the script, all improvised. everything between the two men was natural and i felt like i was part of their story. never faltered from its path and it became a moving story that brings out emotions you don’t normally think about or want to think about in the best way
-
Mark Duplass:
me: you are a beautiful and talented person and i love you and would die for you and would house your children
-
Good follow-up to Blue Jay.
