Synopsis
Twelve is the new eleven.
Danny Ocean reunites with his old flame and the rest of his merry band of thieves in carrying out three huge heists in Rome, Paris and Amsterdam – but a Europol agent is hot on their heels.

You could take Ocean's Twelve as a dismantling of audience expectations, a reversal of the heist film as not necessarily what is being stolen, or how it's achieved, but how to fool the audience into thinking nothing is really going right until the final rug-pull. Or you can examine it as an ultra-detailed aesthetic experiment while letting slack loose on the narrative reins. Steven Soderbergh running wild with movie stars at their silliest and dazzling, gorgeous locales while essentially riffing all the way though. An illusion so lovely that it seems like a tossed-off goof. But the center is so refined, so smooth, that it all merges into an uniquely pleasant experience.
Or you could just watch it for what it is: a movie with a bunch of vibes. Either way, it's perfect.

Every time I watch this it's better and better. At it's heart, the Ocean's franchise is a heist series about love, as it's the greatest weakness of our heroes. Ocean's Eleven happens because Danny loves Tess. Ocean's Twelve happens because Rusty loves Isabel. Ocean's Thirteen happens because everybody loves Reuben. And Ocean's Fourteen should happen because I love the Ocean's movies! You could have Frank's son come in and do Frank's job as a tribute to his late father! Steven, I am available, and I do a great* Bernie Mac!

Beautiful nonsense. Funniest and hottest one, for my money. Had never seen it on the big screen before, I was beaming. First hour of this movie is flawless, the last hour rests its laurels on exactly one line to make sense of the inherent flaw of its twist. Yet I wouldn’t change a thing. These movies are about heists as an analogy for making movies and while Eleven is about filmmaking through the lens of direction, Twelve is all about performance, about playing parts and lying as the ultimate means to a successful story. Only reason to accept it all! Funny that everybody gets wound up about the Julia Roberts stuff as if the capoeira scene isn’t the silliest thing in this entire franchise. (And ending the credits with “Introducing Tess as Julia Roberts?” Come on. We’re having fun.)
