Synopsis
Zenia is an industrious Ukrainian migrant worker in Poland who makes house calls as a masseur to the needy and aspirational residents of a middle-class gated community near Warsaw. He is privy to all of their problems, anxieties and secrets – and something of an unwitting guru figure. Zenia’s grounded spirituality, apparent healing powers and broad shoulders make him an object of lust for many of the lost souls in the community.

Never Gonna Snow Again is a strange, mysterious piece of cinema. It's a high art Euro comedy, and yet also comes with a sizable dramatic angle. It is beautifully dark and comic. A man with special powers becomes a healer for a community. His clients are wealthy, elitist and out of touch. They live a shallow existence of constant jealousy, living in a group of houses that all look alike and spending their days judging their neighbours. They are intolerant and yet know intolerance is wrong. Scratch beneath the surface of privilege and you uncover darkness. Our lead was born near Chernobyl exactly seven years before the disaster. Like a reference to Stalker, this man is a mutant boy who…

There are any number of ways to take this movie, possibly as a super-hero origin story, a modern-day morality tale, or even a Polish Desperate Housewives. I just enjoyed the experience of letting it wash over me as a series of interconnected windows into the lives encountered by travelling masseur Zenia, played with great screen presence and an appropriate air of mystery by Alec Utgoff.
Not all the questions set up seem to be answered, but there are a fair number of clues too, so maybe I’ve just not figured out how all the pieces fit together yet. It’s more likely though that some things will remain unresolved and that this is the intention of the film-makers.
This was a…

saw this at the Laemmle Royal with some people who thought we were going to see the new suicide squad and it was really hard not to have that in the back of my mind the whole time because this movie and suicide squad probably have zero overlap. everyone was really mad it wasn’t suicide squad and it was so funny.

Climate change, class societies, human tragedy, migration, trauma, familial relationships, just a few of the things covered in Never Gonna Snow Again’s slyly comic, mystical n enigmatic wingspan. Not gonna pretend like I understood it all, or if that’s even the point, since it felt very skewed toward your own interpretation. Quietly and consistently poses questions without giving glib or ready answers. Mind-boggling, but utterly enchanting, one i’m happy to sit on and peel back layers on multiple viewings. Also very horny!

77. Mostra - La Biennale di Venezia
In the relatively commonplace middle-class community, where the surface has luxury galore, but it’s actually rotten to the core, immigrant and supernatural masseur Zhenia goes house to house to ‘cure’ his posh Polish clients’ anxiety, boredom or diseases they’ve been treating with narcotics. The film centres on the snobs’ exploitation of his magical powers – the more services he provides, the more sexually desired and exoticised he becomes. Primarily because, by hypnosis, he manifests their deep-seated insecurities and fears, people start treating him as the miraculous healer of everything. The overall soothing cinematography allegorises the languorous feeling during Zhenia’s ‘healing’ massage sessions wherefrom, as the clients, the viewer deems him omnipotent. The additional…

Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert conjure a mesmerically teasing film with Never Gonna Snow Again. The mystery flows with its tranquil camera work and wonderfully crafted world. Nothing is wasted and the fact it kept me guessing made it a great watch.
Alec Utgoff delivers a very shielded performance that explains a lot more about life as an immigrant than most you'll ever witness. Darkly humoured but also an absorbing narrative about consumerism and class divide. Impressed much?

london film festival feature #3
i loved every minute of this. the hues of each scene are phenomenal. all of the shots out of windows, the whole setting and placement, the beautiful original script which was completely captivating and of course alec utoff’s outstanding performance and amazing hands, everything just incredible. maybe if he got his hands on me i’d be cured forever. definitely need to pay this one a visit again so i hope it gets a release elsewhere as it’s a great watch

When an enigmatic foreigner takes up a job as a masseur in a posh suburban community, we're treated to a collage of residents and their lives; made up of families, housewives, widows, loners and the odd cheating husband.
But the synopsis does a fairly good job explaining the gist of this film already.
It's a placid and mesmerising feature that weaves a certain beauty throughout the everyday interactions between the residents and the man who "sees" them.
