K-GUST: The Drama Has Just Begun
After obviously a series of cute, somewhat feel-good rom-com shows, I thought it was time to show something bloodier to my mom without going too far. And I thought this would do the trick.
And this was yet another one of those instances where the show grew as it went along, and we were hooked more by the second half. A lot of buildup, a lot of character establishment and a lot of development paid off by the end, but we didn’t find it engaging. This was my first K-drama!
People often talk about second lead syndrome, but I somehow ended up with third lead syndrome. All that rich dude did was study in Japan… he didn’t deserve all this trouble. Not to say I didn’t love Yoo Yeon-seok too, if the third lead didn’t exist I’d still much prefer Oh to Lee Byung-hyun. I did not buy his romance with Kim Tae-ri at all, between the age difference and the lack of chemistry…. I ended up skipping quite a few of their less important scenes. As for Kim Tae-ri, she was phenomenal obviously. I wasn’t sure about Kim Min-jung but she quickly became one of my favourite characters.
I think my favourite thing throughout…
