leave? yeah, that's exactly what i'm gonna do if shudder doesn't start giving me films that are actually worth watching
Starts off as a rather intriguing moody supernatural mystery thriller centered around a young woman seeking information about her birth parents and family. More characters are introduced which keeps things rolling. Then the douchiest fucktard of a character appears causing the film to shift into a rapey psychological thriller for a short time before morphing back into a mystery thriller with supernatural elements. The ending is fairly tense but I was mostly disconnected by then.
It's nothing special overall and drags in the middle. It suffers the same fate alot of films suffer from these days of being overlong. The cast of characters aren't particularly interesting either. Forgettable but watchable.
If you see this in your watchlist, the films title is a good suggestion of what you should do.
On one hand, I'm exhausted with these new Shudder releases that are dramas with slight horror overtones.
On the other hand, I'm glad the Gothic storytelling genre is still alive and well.
What's so consistently compelling about neurotic females as unreliable narrators? Why must she always explore huge houses with secret passages and trap doors? Why is the ghost always trying to help her but is terribly misunderstood?
Maybe the great big house full of secrets is a bit of a storytelling conceit, meant to extrapolate the larger labyrinth of the neurotic human mind; the Governness in The Turn of the Screw cared for children that were not her own and felt the enormous pressure to perform and care for…
A draggy Norwegian "horror" movie that should really change its title or else you get people taking easy shots at like "Leave this alone" or something like that.
Will scare you if you're terrified of scenes where people ask questions. Otherwise you'll just be bored.

The second half sucked the wind out of me with one halfhearted twist laid into another, coupled with shoddy editing and a dull ending, undermining what was an otherwise intriguing Norwegian tale at the start of a woman trying to find out why she was abandoned in a cemetery as a baby
Leave had some good thrills to it coming toward the ending but it felt more like a mystery drama than a horror thriller.
This will have some familiar vibes on a person searching for the truth of their family/life. However the cast of characters do make the journey well worth the watch. It will be a bit slow pace through the first half of this movie but it'll start coming together coming down to the finale.
Overall this was a slightly decent watch. This wasn't a bad watch but it won't be an entertaining one for everyone as the scary moments feel light and the ending wasn't really a strong one. Just the same I can't help but feel this would be paired well with Son (2021).
