The terror begins the second it starts.

Two college students driving coast to coast are lured off the main highway and onto a deserted Texas road. Here they are stalked by the menacing Leatherface and his demented family...a bizarre cannibalistic clan with blood on their hands and a feast on their minds. The students’ only chance for escape is a survivalist with enough firepower to blast Leatherface and the rest of the grisly predators to hell. A depraved shocker of intense terror from the gruesome beginning to the bloody finish.

When I was a kid, the armadillo rock scene really made me uneasy, which is significant because I have an irrational phobia of armadillos but still didn’t want to see the little bugger go out like that.
The ‘most dangerous game’ tcm riff is doofy popcorn horror and it’s still a fun time... sure, there’s too much running around in the dark for my taste but I love the colors, Ken Foree vs Leatherface, the gas station nutbag, and especially Viggo—I think he’s great in this. This is the kind of late night trash I’m pretty sure Joe Bob Briggs introduced me to as a kid and it’s a definite step down from 2 if you ask me... but don’t…

Tries to mold Hooper's very specific brand of deranged mania and filthy Texas textures into a generic commercial slasher. An inherently flawed concept that dulls a lot of what made the first two movies scary and works of genuine artistry. Appreciate the level gruesomeness and didn't hate some of the cannibal family dynamics they updated for the late 80s (Leatherface and his cassette player lol) but there's just nothing going on underneath the hood and the surface isn’t good enough to justify that. Has none of the hysterical subjectivity or menacing, abstract snuff film qualities of the original film. It just hits the conventional beats the investors told it to with a mediocre competency. Also, it can't be overstated how much of a mistake it was shooting this in California.

Michelle and Ryan are driving through Texas (I won't bore you with the reason why, plus I haven't a clue why ... just for the point of a movie I guess?) and after stopping off at a petrol station, they end up getting chased by the Sawyers and poster boy Leatherface, where they end up crashing in to weekend warrior Benny (or total legend Ken Foree as he's better known as) who ends up helping them escape the Sayer family before they become their next meal.

The franchise's dirty little secret that's locked away in the attic, never aloud out even though it has some good kills (some with an actual chainsaw!) a rocking heavy metal soundtrack to get you all pumped up and to top it all off it has Viggo Mortensen in a frilly apron and nail vanish - so you do the math(s)!

This is better than I remember it being! I watched it a lot when I was a teen, but aside from some effective jump scares I didn’t remember it being particularly good although it is so maybe it’s aged well?
It’s very 90’s and tries to combine the suspense of the first film with the comedy of the second. It succeeds more in the comedy area although like I said, there are some good jump scares. Young Viggo looks real good at the beginning when he’s doing his wholesome cowboy thing.
Definitely needs the bluray treatment...unless it already got it, in which case I missed something which isn’t really that surprising.

A young Viggo Mortensen goes crazy and the new saw family is no healthier than the old one. A little straighter than Hooper's own completely insane sequel, and not badly done by Jeff Burr.

Very watchable, even though there's nothing particularly inspired about it, with David J. Schow's script cribbing from MOTHER'S DAY as much as it does from the previous two installments. Jeff Burr does uncharacteristically picturesque work behind the camera, his desert oranges and nighttime blues striking the exact right foreboding notes for the carnage to come. With no real competition, Ken Foree and Viggo Mortensen can't help but be the cast standouts.
