Shane Atkinson makes a solid debut with a well written neo noir set in a small Texas town. The writing is pretty good, as he neatly unravels the story knots with coherent events backed by good doses of humor, keeping one engaged right through. The performances are adequate all around. It does remind of Coen Brothers and have a few shortcomings, however if you’re a fan of quirky crime mystery thrillers, then definitively give this one a shot. You could sit back, munch your popcorn and have some fun.
Quite enjoyable surprisingly. The humour was great, the acting was pretty good, and the story kept me interested. Steve Zahn was the best part.
Much better than expected. The cast intrigued me. John Magaro is underrated and he pulls of a tremendous lead performance. It's great to see Steve Zahn back, even if it was in a supporting Role & Dylan Baker does more than what I am used to seeing.
It doesn't reinvent the wheel as you can see inspiration from the Coen brothers, but it's done very well. The film could have also been much shorter by at least 20 minutes. At almost 2 hours, the pacing can be inconsistent at times.
Excelente. En un mundo donde importa más estar mal acompañado que estar solo, lo único que puede aportar algo de luz es la compasión. La Blood Simple del 2023.
LaRoy, Texas often evokes the spirit of a Coen Brothers production. It feels like the filmmakers aimed for this vibe, resulting in occasional tonal shifts. One moment, it's ridiculously goofy; the next, it plunges into darkness. The film is peppered with dark humor and unexpected twists. Steve Zahn shines, especially alongside John Magaro. Yet, not every element hits the mark, and the narrative loses steam once its genre becomes clearer. While the ending satisfies to an extent, it could have delved deeper into certain plot points. Overall, it's a somewhat successful attempt at capturing the essence of 90s-style neo-noir black comedies, worth a slight recommendation
Basically another wannabe Coen Brothers movie, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy this.
This turned out to be an enjoyable watch I must say.
Clearly we feel an obvious Cohen vibe in its narrative, and in the way the movie plot unfolds.
Although in many moments it seems like the typical small town neo-western movie, the characters are likeable and they all do their part, which in this kind of movie usually means betrayal, crossing, double-crossing and, of course, murder!

This is just something else!
This cast to start off! The whole cast is great but you cannot take your eyes off Steve Zahn period and Dylan Baker kills it simply put.
LaRoy, Texas isn’t exactly a silly crazy buddy film just so you know. It’s an ensemble cast that will entertain you as it comes together in twos and threes never ever crowding the screen or really overwhelming the story whatsoever. The project doesn’t rely on overt amounts of humor, but the real subtle absurdity from everyday just down right incompetence.
You really feel an o mage to the Coen Brothers here and I loved it! Watch this one with that in mind and you will too, I am sure of it.
Dylan Baker comes to LaRoy,
Falling for every decoy.
All have a con,
Except for Steve Zahn,
Really it's more of a ploy.
