  Pasolini makes every other 60s European director seem dull by comparison. I mean, the rush of thought is absolutely unparalleled (the mothers are left out of the text, but clearly they are there, clearly Pasolini saw them in it, clearly I see them in it—as clear as I see my own mother's face before me):

  Un restauro che ha del miracoloso quello compiuto da Giuseppe Bertolucci che riporta alla luce uno dei primi progetti del Pasolini cineasta, da pochi anni esordiente.

  Nel 1963, per volere produttivo, Pasolini viene chiamato su commissione per realizzare quello che sarà un film di puro montaggio narrato, che dipinge l'attualità sociale, politica e culturale degli anni '50 e '60.
  Film che, suo malgrado, vedrà una divisione in due parti chiamando all'appello lo scrittore e caricaturista Giovannino Guareschi nel tentativo di mettere a confronto due ideologie opposte nella visione del mondo circostante: la prospettiva marxista di Pasolini e quella nettamente più conservatrice di Guareschi.

  While Pasolini was editing his film, back in 1963, the producers, worried about how radical the project might have resulted, decided to add a second part, asking the journalist Giovannino Guareschi to invent himself as a director just to do that, so that the film may become more 'balanced'. But that for sure made Pasolini really angry... still the poet trimmed his segment to give time to the incoming one. In 2008 movie critic Tatti Sanguineti and director Giuseppe Bertolucci rebuilt the poet-director's cut, deleting Guareschi contribution and inserting in 16 minutes of extra-footage found in the original film's distribution company archives.   Dopo anni di oblio nel 2008 torna "La Rabbia di Pasolini", sia nella versione accoppiata con il (disgustoso) segmento guareschiano sia in un'edizione, curata da Giuseppe Bertolucci, in cui si propongono una ricostruzione di parti tagliate all'epoca, la stessa prima parte pasoliniana della versione del '63 e una raccolta di documenti d'epoca intitolata "L'aria del tempo".
  La prima parte di ricostruzione è interessante per il materiale inedito, anche se le nuove voci (tra cui quella di Bertolucci stesso) sanno inevitabilmente di posticcio. L'edizione del '63 l'ho mandata avanti un po' veloce, avendola già rivista da pochissimo, ma mi sono sofferma nella proposta a colori dei quadri. Estremamente interessanti, invece, i segmenti "L'aria del tempo" perché mostrano come Pasolini 'improvvisato' regista venisse sbeffeggiato addirittura nei cinegiornali, oltre che in una gag parodistica alquanto banalizzante, ma ottimi sono anche gli interventi diretti dell'Autore, soprattutto l'ultimo.
