On the eve of the Israeli attack on Egypt in 1956, Israel declares martial law in all the occupied Arab territories without any previous notice. When the villagers of Kafr Kassem returned home from the fields, they were butchered and killed in what is known today as the massacre of “Kafr Kassem”.
What purpose does a massacre serve? How can it be made useful to those who experienced it, directly or indirectly, and to their successors? The Massacre of Kafr Kassem does not fight shy of such iconoclastic questions. Militant thinking of whatever kind - specialist, non-specialist, reverent or critical - generally avoids them altogether. It's a big mistake, according to some, to recall the failures of the people, the defeats of the working class, it's discouraging, depressing, doesn't open up 'perspectives' - unless of course it allows the experts, blind to their own limitations, to pontificate on how similar disasters can be avoided in the future. Such and…
Borhane Alaouié directs a two hour drama about events leading up to a massacre that took place of Arabs by the Israeli forces during the 1950s.
I think the fact the video quality on the rip I had for this leaves alot to be desired at some distractingly choppily surviving sound on that rip, shows us that someone doesn't want this movie getting out or remastered. Although this does address the murders, there's a fair bit more here. Right off the bat this addresses inherited hatred of the other, and then this film makes absolutely no bones about and is not hiding its openess in its politics and side, we hear a long Nasser speech in this film about foreign…
Incredible agitprop filmmaking. Beautifully made, equally horrifying yet never flagrant or emotionally saccharine, highly politically made a lot of the flaws in something like Killers of the Flower Moon more apparent, inherent to the form of course. The violence is direct, plain as day, front-loaded with immediate context from the opening scene. Zero frills. This is what happens. When will it be over?
And still so much beauty to be found. A deep love for the land expressed in the filmmaking. I always love the trees! And all those guys hanging out in the cafe, my favorite scene. Wonderful blocking all around but most especially in this scene. Solidarity with Palestine forever!!!

"Borhane Alaouie explores the daily life of the Palestinian village of Kafr Kassem while tracing back events of their daily lives highlighting the eve of the Israeli massacre in 1956. The film successfully puts forth an effective and central documentation of the Israeli occupation and unpacks the crux of the Palestinian society." - Hady Zaccak
