Blown away by how much this movie holds up. I remember watching it in 2001 because I was a huge Archie fan and thinking its so fucking weird and funny and thinking “Three Small Words” was the best song I’d ever heard. It‘s still up there! Truly a fantastic, fun anti-consumerist satire. John Field’s video essay says it better than I could: it’s the greatest film ever made.
P.S. the man who shot this film also shot Iron Man, Venom, A Star Is Born, Birds of Prey, and every Aronofsky movie. And no joke, you can absolutely tell the same guy shot this movie and Requiem For A Dream.

Seeing this on the big screen with a full theater really accentuates how incredibly fucking funny it is, and I already thought it was incredibly fucking funny! Even with a very annoying group right behind me talking and quoting almost every single line for some reason. Always stunned to remember Matthew Libatique shot this and then he goes full Requiem for a Dream with some fisheye shots and I’m like “oh yeah. freak shit!”
In a just world, this movie would’ve been a hit and we would’ve gotten a DuJour spin off movie like two years later, and a really bad legacy sequel to it 20 years after the fact. And why not. Build the whole plane out of the DuJour, I say.
