Synopsis
Dramatization of the trial of Christian anti-war activists, known collectively as the "Plowshares Eight". In September 1980, they broke into a General Electric weapons plant in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and in an act of protest against nuclear proliferation, poured vials of their own blood onto secret missile plans, burned other files, and damaged nosecones intended for nuclear missiles. The direct-to-video production is intercut with clips from actual news coverage of the trial. The "Plowshares Eight" portray themselves in the production, and after taping was complete, reported to court for their imprisonment.

Like Point of Order and Underground, De Antonio's formal innovations tend to be borne (at least in part) by necessity. Here, he casts the Plowshares 8 themselves in a community theater production of their own trial. (There are precipitory whiffs of Kiarostami here.) The results are riveting in the way few courtroom dramas are. The verdict is a foregone conclusion, but the defendants' stymied attempts to turn their trial into a tribunal on nuclear weapons is consistently riveting.

In the King of Prussia, like most of one-time Oscar nominee Emile de Antonio's filmography, has been practically erased from contemporary film history as the US has devolved systematically into a fully fascist dystopia and its history of radical dissent concordantly memory-holed.
de Antonio here portrays the real life story of the radical Catholic left Plowshares Movement led by two Roman Catholic priests - Fr. Daniel Berrigan and his brother Fr. Philip Berrigan.
The so-called Plowshares Eight were arrested on September 9, 1980 for breaking into the General Electric Space Technology Center in King of Prussia, PA. The nonviolent direct action conducted by the eight in protest included damaging several nose cones of GE Mark 12A nuclear warheads. The eight…
