The o captain my captain scene from dead poets society wishes it had the power of the scene in this where everyone stands up and says they’re gay
I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY MADE A MOVIE SPECIFICALLY FOR OSCAR OBSESSED GAYS WTF IS THIS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF?!??!!
Still hilarious and delightful. The concept for this film is loosely based on Tom Hanks's Oscar acceptance speech for Philadelphia where he thanked and outed his gay High school Drama teacher. Director Frank Oz and writer Paul Rudnick make this work as a laugh out loud comedy and an interesting social commentary on homophobia. A lot of what makes this film work is because of the spot on comedic delivery and wonderful performances from a fine cast that includes Kevin Kline, Tom Selleck (kinda weird seeing him without a mustache), Matt Dillon, Debbie Reynolds, and a show stealing Joan Cusack. It can be a little absurd at times and some may think it plays it too safe in terms of its subject matter, but that does'nt make it less funny or entertaining.
‘IS EVERYBODY GAY???? IS THIS A TWILIGHT ZONE???’
joan cusack is such a good comedic actress, the whole scene of her leaving the bar is soooooo good
so many standout moments from this GEM!
- kevin kline punching his friend in the face at his bachelor party because he said barbra was too old to play yentl
- kevin kline dressing up as a lumber jack and dancing around his house while a self-help tape screams at him to stop being a pussy
- when the old ladies were doing their confessions and one of them confessed that she didn’t like bridges of madison county (she’s me!)
- joan cusack in a wedding dress stumbling out of a bar and screaming “IS EVERYBODY GAY!?” just before getting hit by a car
- an entire graduating class and their families standing up and sayin “i’m gay!” in support of kevin kline
"Gays in the space program?"
"Lesbians on Mars?"
The best kind of lighthearted, out of touch, slightly campy Hollywoodized charming gay movie that can't and won't be made any more.
Also, this is easily the best movie based on a [Tom Hanks] Oscar speech.
Impossible to hate any film that features men fist fighting over the quality of YENTL at a bachelor party.
this is a bad movie but it’s also the best movie ever made. straights? RESIGNED. gays? KEVIN-KLINE’D
