Synopsis
Victor Crowley Lives.
Picking up right where the original ended, Marybeth escapes the clutches of the swamp-dwelling killer Victor Crowley. Reverend Zombie: "You can't kill him. He'll just be reborn. He's forced to return to the state he was when he was killed. You can't kill a ghost."
SYNOPSIS: Marybeth escapes the clutches of the bayou-butcher Victor Crowley and returns to the swamp with an army of hunters and gunmen, determined to end Crowley's reign of horror once and for all.
Adam Green delivers more of the same with his deliriously sadistic sequel to his "throwback" horror hit of 2007. Dedicated followers of the horror genre will take delight…

It saddens me to see Victor Crowley waste his talents in the swamp when he could easily join Gwar and tour the galaxy instead.

Not quite as good as the original, but close! I’m ok with the casting change because I’ll always love Danielle Harris although the characters overall are a little less likable than the first one. The gore level is even higher this time and the kills are pretty much all incredible.
Favorite kill is obviously Tony Todd. As completely unrealistic as it is, it’s still one of the cruelest kills of all time sooooooooo thumbs up!
-
Ok, so this is basically how this plays out:
- Opening gore: guy gets decapitated by his own intestines.
-Lots of blablabla with useless backstory and bucketloads of Tony Todd's wonderful voice.
- Bunch of rednecks accompany the 'I have one facial expression' lead actress. I'm falling asleep here.......and then:
FACE BASHING!! FACE MULCHING!! MOST HOLARIOUS SEX SCENE EVER!! bit of plot DECAPITATIONS!! CASTRATION BY THE BIGGEST CHAINSAW EVER!! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!! SPIDERS!! DEATH BY SANDPAPER!! bit of plot WHY DOES THE BAD GUY LOOK LIKE SLOTH FROM THE GOONIES!! huh...plot twist?? MORE HATCHET CHOPPING!! OH MY GOD AN AUTHENTIC SPINE PULLING SCENE!! OH MY GOD IT'S JUST AMAZ ...oh..it's over...
Good, clean, wholesome family fun.

We watched this one as well. I love this one so much like the first one. The effects are amazing like in the first one, the acting is amazing and the story is entertaining.
Highly suggest it to everyone.

Quite a drop in quality compared to the first movie. I did like that Tony Todd had a bigger role, and Danielle Harris is a welcome addition to any movie, but I really didn't like any of the characters or the banter they had between each other. I actually thought that was one of the stronger aspects of the first movie. That, and the gore FX, which, while still nasty here, were a far cry from what we got in the original. They should've just asked John Carl Buechler back (for more than an acting cameo).
Disappointing.
I am glad that I watched this with Michelle, that at least made it a more bearable viewing experience.

Hatchet II continues the blood soaked swamp excursion, in many ways outdoing the gore fest of the first film, opening strong and giving us some more Crowley lore and numerous appearances by genre veterans before settling into a lengthy buildup before the first non intro/non flashback kill happens... then the bloodbath gates open big time. Honestly I’m not the biggest fan of the Mary Beth casting change... but I’ll survive. The comedy still works for me (for the most part) and the kills are gleefully drenched in splatter, which is just about what you’d want from a sequel such as this.
I was lucky enough to see this theatrically before the issues with the MPAA put a stop to it and I gotta say, Hatchet films are fun to see with a big group of people.

yes im giving 4 stars to any movie with tony todd in a ruffled pirate shirt

"You can't kill him. He'll just be reborn." - Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd),
- Daily Horror Hunt #15 (Sept. '19): boxd.it/3JrCO
Clue (24) Watch any horror film with an appearance by Tony Todd.
Tony Todd fighting Kane Hodder is great. The rest? Meh.
Cajun Bro Murder Party II is not quite as good as the original, and I didn't especially like the original. My problem with this series is that the kills are great but the dialogue (which is the first fucking hour of the film) is painfully bad. Rarely do I declare that I could write better dialogue but I genuinely believe I could. It's just a wasted opportunity, which is kind of how I feel about this whole series. Others like this, I don't know what I'm missing.

That scene is.......

Not a big fan of the Marybeth cast change. However Adam Green is great at giving us a story with characters you grow to like, only to watch them all die. Some very creative ways to use a Hatchet, some really funny moments, and a good sequel to the original. I like part 2, but I really like part 1.
