A gangster crime drama film that received appraisal from Martin Scorsese, which stands in a such prolonged runtime of 320 minutes( part1&2).
When most of Bollywood filmmakers were busy making romantic films Anurag kashyap came and made this masterpiece.
There is a youtube video on the making of Gangs of Wasseypur. People need to watch it to see Anurag Kashyap’s love for movie making.
Gangs Of Wasseypur Series >>> Bahubali Series, Dhoom Series or any other series of Indian Cinema IMO.
A Passage to India: Dawn of the Wobble
Okay, see, this is what I am talking about!
More blood, more corpses, more backstabbing—no one is saved. The characters are more fun and interesting, starting with the 14-year-old kid and his whole nickname. The whole chase with the guy that ends in a train and the way it wraps up. Those are only a few of the great and fun sequences here. There are no friends; everyone is disposable, making the stakes higher. The score is more upbeat and catchier, which adds a nice level of fun that the last movie was missing. Siddiqui makes for a great protagonist; he’s driven by vengeance and this blood thirst will continuously take him…
The second part of the 320 minute epic gangster crime saga, covers the final two decades of the blood feud factions, and takes the dramatics and violent entertainment to another level. Though it’s one whole story, the second part is far more gripping and easily my fav pick. With an already established lawless brutal world and motivation for its characters, it simply goes all guns blazing with a racy fire crackling 160 minutes.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the show stealer here with his magnificent intense performance. The rest of cast deliver strong performances as well. The visual flair and the terrific music create a unmatchable vibe. The dark humor gets well infused into the crisp narrative with amped up rage, revenge and bloodshed. A masterpiece from Anurag Kashyap, that ends up a must watch for its cinematic brilliance.
"This is Wasseypur. Here, even a pigeon flies with one wing, and uses the other wing to guard his innocence."
While Part 1 introduced the world and set up the tone for the entire saga, Part 2 brings everything to a exciting and satisfying conclusion of the story. The story begins from the tragic climax of the first part and continues with the same tone of throughout the film keeps its realistic and raw approach, capturing chaos of the wasseypur and the unhinged nature of gangsters.
The story explores how revenge consumes people and how the cycle of violence only leads to more destruction. Three generations of men sacrificing their lives just to take revenge on one singular man. I finally understand now why this is considered as one of the best bollywood crime-film duology ever made.
Watched both in one sitting & didn't even get up to piss once BUT I had an erection the entire time damn
the most brilliant use of movie references i've ever seen. also i could look at nawazuddin siddiqui's face forever and never get bored.
"Shit got real" in the first film whereas "Shit hits the fan" in the second film! The sins of the father's haunt generations of their familial line!
The film was decidedly darker and bloodier than its predecessor! The futility of revenge and retribution could never have been clearer and yet those involved continued this legacy of hate as if it had been coded into their DNA strands!
Again I was amazed at how attached to the characters one can become but the story was so well crafted that we weren't presented with one dimensional villainous clichéd characters instead we were presented with mirrored images of ourselves capable of both good and bad! An ambitious offering that delivered all that was promised and more!
"When will your blood boil, Faizal?"
Looking at both of these films as a whole, it's kind of insane how game-changing they proved to be. Almost every single Bollywood crime drama film/web series is trying to capture that perfect magical balance of social and cultural commentary as well as pure unabashed entertainment that these two films possess.
Are they a bit too self-indulgent at times? Yeah. But is the self-indulgence worth it? Fuck yeah.
Absolutely brilliant.
English Version below
Anurag Kashyap Ki Jai.
Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2 is not just a sequel; it's the explosive culmination of a sprawling saga of revenge, power, and the cyclical nature of violence.
Picking up where the first part left off, it delves deeper into the blood-soaked landscape of Wasseypur, delivering a visceral and unforgettable cinematic experience.
While the first part established the groundwork, Part 2 broadens the scope of the narrative, introducing a new generation of characters and exploring the consequences of the previous generation's actions. The film doesn't shy away from depicting the brutal realities of gang warfare, with graphic violence and raw language that add to its authenticity.
Kashyap's direction is masterful, creating a gritty and immersive…
Lengthy films will sometimes elicit responses from critics saying, "That would've been better if they had cut the film in half." With Gangs of Wasseypur, Anurag Kashyap took that idea to heart, literally splitting his epic gangster saga right down the middle into two equally hefty 2-hour-40-minute parts. However, both parts are almost uniformly enjoyable Bollywood offerings, with Part 2 taking the edge.
Gangs of Wasseypur definitely carries some of the Bollywood landmarks demonstrated in other offerings like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. (Interestingly enough, this film actually name-drops that Bollywood classic, not once, but twice.) The incessant slo-mo and heavy focus on music are central to Kashyap's vision, except here, bombastic musical numbers are traded in for near-constant needle drops…
