A little cheesy, but who doesn't like watching people help each other?
-
super heartwarming stuff, and very deservingly snagged an oscar nom. if you have 20 minutes to spare consider checking it out!
-
This Oscar shortlisted short features the first deaf-blind actor in a lead role. Not extremely satisfying but has hints of emotion and honestly for only 18 minutes contains a load of humanity.
-
Most of the reviews I've been seeing for this short ebb away from acclaim and shoulder closer to cynical. What happened to straight emotion being accepted instead of classified as cheesy?
Feeling Through caters to being uplifting, that is its goal from the outset. A down-on-his-luck teen struggles to find assistance, and ends up spending the evening assisting someone who needed it far more.
Beautiful and bold to feature someone who, in actuality, is deaf and blind themselves. To bring respectful awareness to those who suffer these afflictions is necessary, and all the closer to equality when they receive opportunities anyone else has.
At this time there are a lot of short films I haven't seen, but I'm confident in saying this is one of best among them, and I'll be rooting for it to get that Oscar.

LISTEN TO ME NOW THIS IS SO FUCKING IMPORTANT THERE’S A BLACK LEADING ACTOR WHO IS FUCKING MARVELOUS WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD HE GAVE MORE TALENT THAN HALF OF HOLLYWOOD TOGETHER THIS IS THE FIRST MOVIE EVER TO HAVE A REAL DEAF BLIND ACTOR IT WAS SO FUCKING PURE AND HONEST AND I AM HAVING A MENTAL BREAKDOWN

Overly dramatic cinema is a common thing. It forces you with all the tricks known (from music, pretty faces, tears, etc...) so you can get an emotional response to what you are watching. However, it lacks genuine feeling, and the fight to reach that state. "Feeling Through" could fall on the first category of cinema, and, thankfully, it does not. It is a sweet short about the kindness of strangers, which is ultimately our own kindness.

Me reading Letterboxd reviews be like, "When did we start dismissing pure and kind as cheesy and oversentimental? When did we all become such cynics?"
-
ah man this was so soft 🥺🥺
i just found out robert tarango, who plays artie, really is blind and deaf, and this made me love this short even more

Simple but very effective, it is really moving from the beginning.

This feels like one of those dumb facebook inspirational videos but stretched out over 18 minutes.

*Oscar nominated short film*
Overly sentimental and and heavy, but still an undeniably sweet story about a kid helping a blind and deaf man get home. I may have been harder on this movie other years, but after a pandemic we all got through together (besides anti mask dicks), this was a message that felt appropriate
Narrative Oscar Nominated short films ranked best to worst:
1. Two Distant Strangers
2. White Eye
3. The Letter Room
4. Feeling Through
5. The Present
