A drug squad attempts to take down a criminal organization and they must go undercover to do so, so they begin working at a chicken restaurant, that becomes famous for its delicious chicken. Due to the unexpected popularity, the detectives find themselves in a situation they never expected.
Extreme Job was an absolute blast! A winning cast, appealing characters and wacky gags make it genuinely charming & crowd-pleasing action comedy with a fresh take on the cop movie format filled with heart, humor and hard-hitting action choreography. Tho, it kinda dips in the middle, it would have been a much better paced movie if they had trimmed like 15-20 mins from it.
The film misses the mark in the second act at showing the transition from police officers to chicken shop staff (they instantly go from one to the other and then back again later), but it has enough laughs and a funny enough premise to make it a worthwhile watch.
It is fast-paced both as comedy and as an action movie. With very few lagging moments, Extreme Job hits all the right notes, cooking up a feel-good romp that makes the near-two-hour runtime fly by in a gleeful parade of one hilarious sequence after the next. The actors did their part well and the chemistry between them is nice to watch.
Go see this before someone mounts an American remake and kills the best jokes.
God, South Koreans really know their stuff when it comes to cinema.
As I sit in the departure lounge before I depart to Chicago, I think of the laughs I had watching this. It's only been two days but yet this film remains hilarious to even think about. Jokes were delivered almost flawlessly and had me in bursts of giggles throughout. I enjoyed Ryu Seung-ryong in Psychokinesis and he excelled in this film, as well as the rest of the narc squad who I have seen before in various South Korean movies. Jokes were on point and Extreme Job had some of the most fun fight choreography in a comedy movie I have seen in a while.
Was intrigued by the concept alone, which had me in the theater curious to see how this police procedural comedy was going to pan out.
The premise (which has been advertised in all the marketing material) is ingenious & seems like a great recipe for comedy gold; a bunch of buffoonish, incompetent police team on the verge of disbandment uses a Korean fried chicken restaurant to stakeout the joint of a notorious mob boss but are suddenly overwhelmed by the restaurant business when their accidental DIY chicken recipe turns them into the hottest eatery in town.
I mean, this movie pretty much writes itself right? How could you read that plot summary & not be excited by its potential?
Morale of the story: South Korean public transportation will kill you, especially if you are a criminal.
This action-comedy works as both as a slapstick comedy and an action film even though, aside from its somewhat unique premise, follows the buddy cop and procedurals formula pretty much begining to end.
Don't get me wrong, there are some nice twists and turns and I did expect for somethings to go one way just to actually get my expectations totally subverted. Most of the humor is pretty good and there are some really nice gags, but this is one of those movies that throw a bunch of joke per second and only a few of them work and the rest are just lame or annoying.
Nevertheless, this film does proves that Korean cinema isn't only great on making this genre films, but they know their way to make laugh to a wider out of their own culture.
What a Fun ride Comedy+ Thriller, Fresh Concept, and Tremendous Acting by Each Actors... The characters are witty, quirky and funny, Top Notch Cinematography and Direction.. Definitely recommend!!
